Topic: “On reachability in discrete linear dynamical systems”.

Summary: The problem of reachability is the study of whether a point will reach a given target set moving along a trajectory described by a dynamical system considered from a given initial state. Problems of this type arise in testing systems controlled by differential equations.

The presentation is devoted to reachability for both discrete and continuous linear dynamical systems. It is known that in the absence of control, the problem of reachability leads to the well-known open Skolem problem for linear recurrence sequences. Recent developments concerning the connection between reachability and number theory, including Diophantine approximations, will be discussed.
