Conference dedicated to the life and work of Corresponding Member of ANAS Asker Abdullayev
10.01.2023 /A conference dedicated to the life and work of Corresponding Member of ANAS Asker Abdullayev, the founding father of oil and gas industry automation in our country, was held on January 6, 2023 with the support of the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Cultural Autonomy (NCA) of Azerbaijanis living in Moscow. The event, held in the online format, was attended by scientists and specialists of relevant organizations and invited guests.
Opening the event, General Director of ICS, Academician Ali Abbasov stressed the importance of the conference and spoke about the life and work of the outstanding scientist A.Abdullayev, his rich scientific career. Academician noted that development of automatic control systems for objects of oil-gas, oil-chemical, oil-refining industries were the main areas of his scientific activity. A.Abdullayev was the first to propose the principle of multilevel and multiloop automation system for the oil industry with unified technical, information and organizational support.
A.Abbasov said that the scientist, famous in the field of automatics and telemechanics not only in Azerbaijan, but also worldwide, has made an important contribution to development and implementation of automated control systems of oil and petrochemical industries in our country. The academician stressed that fundamental researches were carried out in this field based on the model laid by A.Abdullayev, new approaches emerged, including intelligent control systems based on international standards like SCADA and so on. He said that the activity of A.Abdullayev, who made exceptional contributions to the development of the science and technology of automatic control during his 50-year scientific career, was closely tied for many years to the research and design institute "Neftkhimavtomat", which was established under his leadership.
The academician said that Abdullayev, who had honorably represented Azerbaijan in the leading countries of the world and played an important role in developing the potential of highly qualified personnel, had been awarded the "Badge of Honor" Order, the October Revolution Order and the Order of Red Banner of Labor, was a laureate of the USSR State Prize, the USSR Council of Ministers Prize.
A.Abbasov spoke about the exceptional achievements of A.Abdullayev in the introduction of important scientific results into production, commercialization of science and improving human resources capacity, and then honored the memory of the outstanding scientist and remarkable person.
Then Ramiz Humbatov, рead of Automation, telecommunications and energy department of the Baku Engineering University, Doctor of Engineering, in his speech thanked the administration of the ICS for the initiative and organizational support for the conference. Emphasizing the importance of such events in the context of development of Azerbaijani science, especially in the period after the Second Karabakh war, the scientist spoke about A. Abdullayev's meaningful life journey and shared his memories about him. R. Humbatov said that the main goal of Abdullayev, who was born on 1 January 1927 in Gubadli District, was to develop Azerbaijani science. The scientist, who had high scientific and pedagogical experience and organizational skills, achieved the creation and successful implementation of special automated control systems in the petrochemical industry of the country.
Speaking about A.Abdullayev's scientific activity, R.Humbatov noted that his comprehensive, theoretical-fundamental research, long-term industrial operation of the created systems, confirmation of methods and efficiency of their work give grounds to say that the outstanding scientist is the founder of theoretical research and development in the field of automation of the oil industry in the former USSR.
Then Academician Telman Aliev, Advisor of ANAS, spoke about the rich scientific activities of the prominent scientist. He noted that A.Abdullayev was one of the outstanding scientists who proposed the principles of creation of automated control systems for oil refineries in the post-Soviet region. His scientific activity in oil refining and petrochemical industry covers all aspects of automation of technological processes. T.Aliev said methods of modeling and optimization of complex production systems put forward by representatives of the school of automation of refining and petrochemical industry founded by A.Abdullayev have a great scientific value. Sharing his memories about the outstanding scientist who made important contribution to development of cybernetics and informatics in Azerbaijan, the academician expressed confidence that blessed memory of A.Abdullayev will forever live in the hearts.
Vice President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), General Director of the Institute of Information Technologies Academician Rasim Aliguliyev gave an overview of A.Abdullayev's scientific and pedagogical activity in his speech. The academician noted that under the leadership of A.Abdullayev the foundations of complex automation of oil fields were laid in the country. He spoke in detail about development and application of special automated control systems in oil industry under A.Abdullayev's leadership in 1950-60s and said that the scientific school formed by him became firmly established as an independent scientific movement outside the country and interdisciplinary researches contributed to its implementation.
R.Aliguliyev stressed the importance of highlighting and popularizing the life and work, scientific and educational activities of prominent scientists who made an exceptional contribution to the development of Azerbaijani science, in terms of development of science in the country, improving human resources capacity, implementation of new scientific research in priority areas, and spoke about the upcoming challenges in this regard.
Then the documentary film "ASKER" directed by Eldara Aliyeva, dedicated to the life and work of outstanding scientist A.Abdullayev, was screened.
At the end, prominent scientists shared their memories of A.Abdullayev and talked about his life and work. Corresponding Member of ANAS Kamil Aida-zade, Professors Nadein Vladimir, Asim Kazimov, Mais Farhadov, Fuad Aleskerov, Associate Professors Asif Rzayev, Hashim Aliyev, Chingiz Hajizade, Farid Agayev, members of A.Abdullayev's family Zemfira Abdullayeva and Gular Abdullayeva took part in the discussions.
