Academician Ali Abbasov’s final meeting with the Institute’s staff

A farewell meeting between Academician Ali Abbasov and the staff of the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the institute on December 30, 2025. The staff of the institution attended the event.
Opening the meeting with, Academician Ali Abbasov congratulated the institute's staff on December 31, the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, and the upcoming New Year 2026, wishing them new scientific achievements. He noted that the celebration of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis at the highest level has become a significant event in the history of the social thought of our people. This holiday, which serves as a symbol of our spiritual unity, is the embodiment of love for the Motherland and national identity in the hearts of our compatriots.
A. Abbasov spoke about the fundamental scientific research conducted over many years at the Institute of Control Systems, which possesses a rich history, about the industrial application of scientific results, and particularly emphasized the invaluable contributions of the prominent figures who have led the institute, specifically Academician Telman Aliev. Highly praising the staff's activities during his tenure as head of the institute, the scientist stated that the Institute of Control Systems has evolved into a serious scientific school recognized not only in Azerbaijan but also outside the country. The fundamental scientific research conducted at the institute over the years has played a decisive role in the development of the country's economy and technology.
A. Abbasov also highly praised the establishment of the Institute of Mathematics on the basis of the Institute of Control Systems and the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, following the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 4, 2025, "On additional measures to optimize the activities and increase the efficiency of scientific institutions under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan." He described the new scientific strategy as an exceptional step toward optimizing activities and enhancing efficiency of institutions.
The academician said that the duties of the Director of the Institute of Mathematics had been assigned to Elkhan Sabziev, DSc in Engineering, and proceeded to congratulate on behalf of the Institute of Control Systems staff the scientist, who has made important contributions to mathematical science and cybernetics, and wish him new success in his new position toward the development of Azerbaijani science and the integration of science and education.
Expressing high hopes for the institute's future directions of activity, the academician emphasized that the newly established institution marks the beginning of a new era in science and education, and that this integration will enhance Azerbaijan's intellectual potential. He said he was confident that the Institute of Mathematics will achieve competitive results in the international scientific arena and offer innovative solutions meeting global challenges.
One of the most touching moments of the speech was the academician's farewell to the staff. He said that the institute he had led for years was not just a workplace for him, but a spiritual home. Addressing his beloved colleagues, A. Abbasov sincerely emphasized that he would never forget their years together, the achievements made, and the scientific discussions held. He thanked personally every employee and stated that he would always take pride in their future accomplishments.
Then Elkhan Sabziev, DSc in Engineering, in his speech congratulated the event participants on the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and wished them new scientific achievements. Speaking about the exceptional role of the Institute of Control Systems in the development of Azerbaijani science, the scientist noted the invaluable contributions of Academicians Telman Aliev and Ali Abbasov in this area. Emphasizing the importance of the new development concept implemented by the country's leadership to improve Azerbaijani science, E. Sabziev said that the establishment of the Institute of Mathematics marked the beginning of a new era in the field of science and education, and expressed his confidence that he would justify the high trust placed in him.

Then, Associate Professor Alekper Akhundov, PhD in Mathematics, Head of the Laboratory of Models and Methods of Discrete Optimization Professor Knyaz Mammadov, DSc in Mathematics, and Software Engineer Soltan Mammadov took the floor. They spoke about the history of the Institute of Control Systems, particularly the practical measures and significant scientific results achieved during the leadership of Academician Telman Aliev and Academician Ali Abbasov. They also touched upon the development strategy for Azerbaijani science implemented by the country's leadership, wished success to Elkhan Sabziev, who was appointed as the head of the newly created Institute of Mathematics, and highlighted the tasks facing the institute's scientists in this direction.
In conclusion, A. Abbasov emphasized the importance of the policy pursued by the head of state toward the development of science and education, expressed his confidence that the staff of the newly created Institute of Mathematics would conduct even more effective research, and said that he would always feel like a part of this beloved team.
