11 February - An event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was held

An online event dedicated to 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, was held at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of ANAS. In addition to members of the Women Council (WC) of the institute, representatives of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, the trade union organization, education and public relations departments also took part in the event. First of all, the participants honored the memory of the martyrs who died for our lands in the 44-day Patriotic War a minute of silence.

The event was opened by the Chairperson of the WC of the ICS Assoc. Prof. Rena Asadova, who said that the International Day of Women and Girls in Science had been founded by the UN resolution in 2015 and is widely celebrated in many countries. She noted that women in the country are given special attention and care at the state level and talked about the practical actions taken in this area. Speaking about the achievements of the women engaged in scientific research at ICS, R. Asadova spoke about the scientific school created by Tamilla Nasirova, the first female Doctor of Mathematics in Azerbaijan, and her contribution to science. Speaking about the work of the Institute's scientists, including women scientists, during the pandemic, R. Asadova noted that the pandemic had had no negative impact on the activities of scientists who continued publishing their papers in prestigious foreign journals, preparing books and monographs.

Then Aygun Aliyeva, PhD in Economics, Deputy Chairperson of the WC of the ICS, spoke about women who left an important mark in Azerbaijani science, who stood at its origins, about the first woman academician in the field of ophthalmology Zarifa Aliyeva, orientalist Aida Imanguliyeva and other scientists. A. Aliyeva also noted that in our time, the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva is an example for Azerbaijani women both in public and scientific life.

Speaking at the event, Professor Tamilla Nasirova, Doctor of Engineering, emphasized that during the war, Azerbaijani women showed selflessness in the rear. Speaking about her achievements in science, the scientist noted the important role of scientific schools in training high-level personnel, educating young specialists, and voiced her recommendations to young people in science.

Then, in her speech, Professor Nailya Musaeva, Doctor of Engineering,  spoke about the value of Azerbaijani women in modern times, about their role in the development of science and education, the achievements of women in the technical field. N. Musaeva informed the participants about the book "Female Mathematicians of Russia and Azerbaijan" published in Moscow in 2017, noting that the book contains articles about women mathematicians from the ICS.

Then Assoc. Prof. Gulchin Abdullayeva, PhD in Mathematics, spoke about the history and stages of development of the institute and noted the participation of women scientists in the training of personnel in the field of information and communication technologies. She emphasized the need for women to acquire scientific knowledge and spoke about the talented young female researchers working at the institute.

Congratulating women on this significant day, Professor Ilgar Mammadov spoke about female scientists known in the world of science for their revolutionary inventions and important discoveries.

PhD in Technical Rahila Sadigova spoke about women who receive education and work in the technical field. Assoc. Prof. Kenul Omarova spoke about the areas in which women are underrepresented and their achievements in science-intensive topics, and the senior researcher of the institute Valeria Pushnova spoke about the development of the young generation in the information society.

In conclusion, the chairman of the WC R. Asadova congratulated the participants on this important day and wished them success in their future activities.
