A joint scientific seminar with ASOIU was held at the Institute of Control Systems
10.07.2021 / Conferences, assembliesOn July 9, 2021, a joint scientific seminar with representatives of the Azerbaijan State of Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) was held at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of ANAS. The event was attended by the General Director of the Institute, Academician Ali Abbasov, Executive Director, Corresponding Member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov, Vice Rector for Science of ASOIU Professor Rauf Aliyarov, Advisor to the Rector for High Performance Computing (HPC), Professor Ehsan Musavi, Head of the Department of General and Applied Mathematics, Scientific Director of the HPC Center, Professor Araz Aliyev, a group of scientists and specialists of the institute, as well as invited guests.
The institute's General Director, Academician Ali Abbasov, noted the establishment of the first high-performance computing center in the region at ASOIU in 2019 and spoke about the center's capabilities and its role in the development of science, and the bilateral cooperation. Reminding the audience about the cooperation agreement signed between ICS and ASOIU in March this year, the Academician noted the need and importance of using the capabilities of the HPC Center to solve applied problems requiring high performance computing in the relevant laboratories of the ICS.
Then Nigar Ismayilova, PhD (Eng), Executive for the Scientific and Organizational Work of the HPC center, in her speech pointed out the need for high-level computing systems for the scientific and technological development of countries in our time, noting that high-performance computing is used by science-intensive large industrial enterprises and academic institutions, mainly for solving scientific and practical problems that require large volumes of calculations. Emphasizing the importance of personnel training in this area, N. Ismayilova informed the participants about the role of ASOIU in this a, threa e work done and international projects.
Professor Ehsan Mousavi, Advisor to the Rector for High Performance Computing, spoke about the potential of high performance computing, which is widely used in modern scientific research, and noted that it has broad applied capabilities in computer science, including the fields of science where computing is used - quantum mechanics, weather forecasting, molecular modeling and physical modeling. Touching upon the important role of ANAS in the development of science, E. Mousavi said that cooperation with the ICS will be important in Azerbaijan in solving problems of implementation of large volumes of computations that require high performance, and will make an important contribution to development in this area.
Then Ehsan Mousavi and Professor Araz Aliyev, Head of the Department of General and Applied Mathematics of ASOIU, answered in detail the numerous questions of the participants, opinions were expressed on the topic and proposals were put forward in connection with future prospects.
Executive Director of ICS, Corresponding Member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov and Vice Rector for Scientific Work of ASOIU Professor Rauf Aliyarov in their speeches stressed the need to conduct a number of fundamental and applied scientific research using the capabilities of the HPC Center of ASOIU within the framework of the signed cooperation agreement. They noted that the work to be done in this direction would contribute to important scientific results in the future, and voiced their proposals.
The participants of the seminar widely discussed the effective use of the resources of the HPC Center together with university scientists in a number of studies carried out in the ICS, including optimal control of unmanned aerial vehicles, processing and understanding of natural language, object recognition under conditions of uncertainty and in solving a number of practical AI-related problems.
In conclusion, Academician Ali Abbasov summed up the results of the discussions and gave relevant instructions to leading scientists and specialists of the institute for more effective use of the HPC Center, again emphasizing the importance of cooperation in this area for both institutions, and thanked the administration of ASOIU.
