An international meeting was held at the Institute of Control Systems
27.01.2022 /An international meeting with researchers from the University of Western Macedonia (Greece) and the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) was held at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of ANAS on January 25, 2022. The event was attended by the administration of the institute, Professor Ehsan Musavi, Advisor to the Rector on High Performance Computing (HPC) of ASOIU, Professor Panagiotis Sarigiannidis, Head of the Internet of Things and Applications Lab (ITHACA) of the University of West Macedonia, Greece, a number of scientists and invited guests. Note that the event was held within the framework of a memorandum of bilateral partnership between ICS and ASOIU.
Opening the event, General Director of ICS, academician Ali Abbasov, welcomed the guests, thanked them for the attention to the institute and spoke about the history, activities and main areas of research of the institute. A. Abbasov told in detail about studies in the field of control systems, optimal decision-making, signal processing, intelligent information analysis, mathematical economics and econometrics, dynamic systems in oil and gas industry and other main fields of research of the institute.
Then Associate Professor Adalat Pashayev, PhD in Mathematics, Head of the Laboratory of Modeling and Control of Continuous Processes, made a presentation on HPC-based image processing. A. Pashayev said that joint processing of images taken with different color filters is used at the institute as one of the methods for remote sensing of the Earth's surface, and for this purpose the studies on obtaining color images from filtered images, calculation of photosynthesis coefficient are carried out. Pointing out that in order to capture large objects with necessary accuracy it is necessary to take several shots, the scientist said that works are being carried out to develop a software module capable of combining these shots into a single one. A. Pashayev spoke about ways to solve problems that may arise when combining and recognizing images in this regard.
Then Rauf Fatullayev, PhD in Engineering, senior researcher of the Institute, made a presentation on speech recognition systems. R. Fatullayev said that the systems based on technologies and methods of artificial intelligence (AI) allow implementing various functions of human intellect, solving complex formalized problems of practical importance in computer systems, which leads to significant economic efficiency and is expanding the scope of application every day. Processing of natural languages has become a branch of artificial intelligence application that studies computer-aided analysis and synthesis of any natural language. Pointing out that speech recognition is automatic analysis and conversion of human speech into text with the help of computer programs, the scientist emphasized that the developed system can be widely used in human resources. He also expressed confidence that through voice recognition and speech-to-text conversion it is possible to establish an effective dialogue between people by means of call centers.
Prof. Elchin Aliyev, DSc in Engineering, Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent Decision-Making Methods and Computer Systems, spoke about the joint research and work done for future perspectives. The scientist spoke about UAVs, which are of great importance in the modern era, technology of their production, design, manufacture, testing for quality flight and possibilities of their use. E. Aliyev spoke about the problems of navigation that can arise during flight, energy consumption, engine characteristics, the use of UAVs in various fields, their types and specifications. The scientist noted that this research would play an important role in solving certain problems in various fields, including agriculture, plant cultivation, etc. Then there was an exchange of views on the presentation, which was met with great interest.
Then Associate Professor Asif Rzayev, DSc in Engineering, Head of Laboratory of Intelligent Diagnostic and Control Systems for Oil and Gas Production Facilities, spoke about the problems of automation and data transfer in oil and gas production. He spoke about fountain, oil-gas and mechanical oil recovery methods, as well as downhole, submersible and other pumps, their modern use and advantages. He pointed out that the main problems in using mechanical methods are related to reduction of energy consumption, early diagnosis of technical devices, and remote data control. A. Rzayevinformed the guests about sucker rod pumps that are most widely used in Azerbaijan and the new system created for their use, calculation methods, the possibility of early diagnosis using the noise technology created at the ICS, and the existing problems.
Head of ITHACA Professor Panagiotis Sarigiannidis thanked the administration of ICS for organizing the meeting, gave a positive assessment of the scientific research carried out at the Institute, the new ideas put forward and experience in this field. Expressing his opinion on the presented topics, he spoke about the achievements, the possibilities of their application in various fields and the joint work that can be done to solve certain problems, the future prospects.
Then Professor Ehsan Musavi, Advisor to ASOIU Rector on HPC, expressed his pleasure at visiting the ICS again and thanked the administration of the institute for their attention. Emphasizing the relevance of the presentations for joint research, he spoke about the research to be conducted between ICS and ASOIU in this area, and the plans for the future. The scientist mentioned the importance of cooperation with the University of Western Macedonia in Greece in terms of developing national and international projects.
In conclusion, General Director of ICS Ali Abbasov expressed his gratitude to the representatives of ASOIU and the University of Western Macedonia and emphasized the importance of the upcoming trilateral projects.
