An event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Control Systems
25.02.2022 /An event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of ANAS on February 25, 2022, organized by the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists (CYSS). The event was attended by members of the Council, representatives of departments and laboratories. The memory of the victims of the tragedy was first honored with a moment of silence.
Opening the event, chairman of CYSS Lamiya Najafova said that on the night of February 25-26, 1992 Armenian armed groups with the support of the armored vehicles and military personnel stationed in Khankendi during the Soviet time seized the town of Khojaly. The enemy who wanted to annex Nagorno-Karabakh showed that they were ready for any crimes and atrocities on this path. She said that the Khojaly genocide, the most appalling tragedy of the 20th century, was the result of this aggressive and criminal Armenian policy.
Talking of getting the Khojaly realities across to the world, L. Najafova said that a number of important events had been held in recent years to commemorate the Khojaly martyrs by the order of President Ilham Aliyev. Monuments to Khojaly martyrs have been erected in Baku, several regions of the country, and most countries around the world with the support of our diasporas.
Speaking of the historical and political processes preceding the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the roots of the tragedy, statistics of victims of the tragedy, she pointed out that the Khojaly genocide was the peak of the enemy's insidious policy. Azerbaijanis all over the world remember this terrible historical event with deep sorrow.
Then Doctor of Mathematics Ilgar Mammadov talked in his speech of the work done towards the global recognition of this horrible act of genocide committed against the Azerbaijani people. He talked in particular of works done by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation led by First Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva. He also informed participants of the "Justice for Khojaly" international campaign launched in 2008 on the initiative of Vice President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva to get the truth about Khojaly across to the world community. He said that various events are held in Germany, Poland, France, the Czech Republic and other countries within the framework of this campaign and Azerbaijan's just position is demonstrated.
Talking about the history and consequences of the tragedy, I. Mammadov noted that today Azerbaijan, as a victorious country, had completely crushed all efforts of the inhumane, hateful enemy and avenged the martyrs who died for their Motherland by liberating our historical lands from occupation.
Then Associate Professor Rashad Mastaliyev said that the Khojaly genocide, one of the worst tragedies in history, was the next stage of ruthless crimes committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people for many years. On the night from 25 to 26 February 1992, the most tragic event in the modern history of Azerbaijan took place. Armenian armed groups, together with the soldiers of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of Russia committed a terrible genocide against the Azerbaijanis in Khojaly. The perpetrators of this tragedy wanted to intimidate the Azerbaijani people, break its will to fight and force it to accept the loss of a part of our historical lands.
Pointing out that practical steps have been taken for many years to inform the world community of the Khojaly genocide and expose its perpetrators, R. Mastaliyev said that to uncover the true essence of the Khojaly massacre and give political and legal assessment to it, in February 1994, on the initiative of great leader Heydar Aliyev Milli Majlis of Republic of Azerbaijan adopted resolution "On the Day of Khojaly Genocide" and February 26 was announced the "Day of Khojaly Genocide".
At the end of his speech, R. Mastaliyev spoke about the hardships and difficult life conditions of those who suffered in the tragedy, lost their relatives, were driven out of their home lands, and asked God to bless all martyrs.
Secretary of CYSS Rayiha Niyazova then spoke about the references to the Khojaly tragedy in Armenian sources and historical works. R. Niyazova told the participants of the event about the cases of the enemy demonstrating its unfair position. She said that the blockade of the ancient town of Khojaly was not coincidental. Khojaly was the largest and oldest settlement playing the role of a link between Arran and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Although the perpetrators of the genocide carried out with particular cruelty set out to erase through their insidious policies this ancient settlement from the face of the earth, they failed to break the Azerbaijani people's will to fight.
Video clips dedicated to the Khojaly genocide were also demonstrated at the event.
