Renowned scientist Gulchin Abdullayeva turns 75

Associate Professor Gulchin Abdullayeva, PhD in mathematics, Head of the Laboratory of the intelligent information processing systems of the Institute of Control Systems, well-known scientist in the field of intelligent systems, turned 75 on January 20, 2022.
Gulchin Abdullayeva was born on January 20, 1947 in Baku in the family of intellectuals. Her father Gulhuseyn Huseynoglu was a People' Writer of Azerbaijan, a professor, and her mother Masuda khanim was a teacher of Azerbaijani language and literature. In 1965, Gulchin khanim graduated from secondary school No. 150 with a gold medal, and the same year she entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Azerbaijan State University (present Baku State University) with one examination, and successfully graduated in 1970 with a degree in mathematics.
In 1971-1975 she attended postgraduate courses of the Azerbaijan State University by correspondence, and in 1979 she defended her Candidate's thesis on "Regularization of singular integrals" and got an academic degree of a Candidate of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics.
On November 16, 1970, Abdullayeva began her multidisciplinary career at the Institute of Cybernetics (now the Institute of Control Systems) of the Academy of Sciences, where she worked as a junior researcher, senior researcher, team leader, head of sector and head of laboratory.
The distinguished scientist was the first to propose an uncorrelated approach in the Tikhonov sense to the calculation of singular operators and to develop this method. In 1970-1985 she performed approximate computation of singular operators on closed and open loops, solution of linear and nonlinear singular integral equations by her proposed method of regularization of singular operators, and this result was included in the annual report of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
Since 1986, Abdullayeva has been regularly working in the field of artificial intelligence, and the scientific results and applications she has obtained in this field since 1991 have continued to the present day. Over the years, she has developed and implemented expert systems covering various branches of the national economy. Her main works, such as "Acute Stomach", "Carbon Monoxide", "Recommendations for surgical intervention in orthopedics", "Recognition of complex images on the plane (ultrasound)", can be attributed to the field of medicine. Other examples include "Intelligent System in Inflammatory Traumatology" and other intelligent systems.
Extensive scientific activity of the scientist includes "Recognition of old alphabet", "Recognition and identification of Azerbaijani hand-made carpets", "Creating catalogs", "Diagnosis and prediction of aircraft engines", intelligent system of diagnostics and forecasting of equipment in oil production industry based on fuzzy models, intelligent system of choice and decision-making in field geophysical research, integrated expert decision-making system for oil and gas fields.
The distinguished scientist has been engaged in pedagogical activity since 1974. From 1974 to 1983 she taught mathematical analysis at the faculty of applied mathematics of BSU, then medical cybernetics at the Azerbaijan Medical University, artificial intelligence and expert systems at BSU, intellectual systems at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction and other subjects.
She is the author of 148 scientific articles, 5 Eurasian and republican patents. One of her monographs Information Technology in Evidence-Based Medicine was commissioned by the Canadian Society for International Health, Information Technology in Toxicology was published in Germany, and Intelligent Diagnostic Systems won first place in the competition announced by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies in 2016. The scientist, who has made a significant contribution to education, has taught PhD students in engineering and medicine.
Since 2003, G. Abdullayeva was scientific secretary of the scientific seminar of the D 01.121 Dissertation Council and is currently the scientific secretary of the scientific seminar of the D1.20 Dissertation Council.
In 2004-2005, the outstanding scientist received a grant from the Canadian Society for International Health, in 2005 she was awarded the state medal "Progress" for her scientific activities, in 2008 she was awarded by the World Intellectual Property Organization, in 2017 she was awarded the title of "Scientist of the Year". Since 2004, she has been a member of Women in Science and Education, an international organization. She has been a veteran of labor since 2014. G. Abdullayeva is also a member of scientific committees of Ukrainian and Russian scientific conferences.
