Prominent scientist Agasi Melikov celebrates his 65th birthday
01.01.2022 /
On January, 1, 2022, Professor Agasi Melikov, Doctor of Engineering, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Head of the laboratory of queuing inventory systems, celebrated his 65th birthday.
In 1977 Agasi Melikov graduated from the Azerbaijan State University (currently Baku State University) with a degree in mathematics. In 1984 he became a Candidate of Technical Sciences and in 1992 he became a Doctor of Technical Sciences. He defended his candidate's dissertation at the Kyiv Institute of Automatics, and his doctoral thesis at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The scientific supervisor and advisor of these dissertations was the well-known mathematician and cybernetician, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine V.S. Korolyuk. In 2001, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the field of Informatics.
Agasi Melikov is the author of more than 250 articles and dozens of textbooks and manuals published in prestigious journals worldwide. His monographs have been published in foreign publishers. Under his editorship a 450-page collection of articles titled Cellular Networks was published by Intech in 2011.
A prominent scientist has been engaged for many years in research in applied probability theory, which is an important area of applied mathematics, and its application in various fields, in particular, in teletraffic networks and inventory systems. During these years, A.Z. Melikov created the mathematical theory of multilevel service systems with controllable priorities and applied it to petroleum products supply systems. In 1993-2013, the main object of his research was communication networks; he created an approach to mathematical analysis of networks and obtained successful results in calculating and optimizing their quality indicators. His results in this area have been published in many reputable scientific journals.
In recent years A. Melikov, together with Professors A. Krishnamoorthy, S. Chakravarhty and J. Sztrik, has done extensive research, the results of which have been published in four papers in the Q1-listed journal Mathematics. He also closely cooperates with famous scientific schools and scientists in the CIS countries. Among these are research centers in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.
In recent years, Agasi Melikov was a member of the Doctoral Dissertation Council at 3 universities in India, including twice as chairman of the council. His WoS Core Collection list includes 85 papers to date.
A. Melikov is a member of editorial boards of several prestigious journals, 2 of which are listed in Science Citation Index (Expanded) Applied Mathematics (USA) and Applied and Computational Mathematics (Azerbaijan). He was also the first editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Operational Research, published in the USA. He is a reviewer for a number of reputable journals. Among them are Annals of Operations Research (Springer), Automation & Remote Control (Springer), Physical Communications (Elsevier), Applied and Computational Mathematics, Internet of Things (Elsevier), Applied and Computational Mathematics International Journal (Springer), Mathematics (MDPI), Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (Turkey).
The method he proposed for calculating the stationary distribution of oversized Markov chains drew particular attention of scientists all over the world, and this method is called the Melikov method in a frequently cited review article.
Since 2009, Agasi Melikov has also been actively involved in the educational process at the National Academy of Aviation as the head of the Computer Systems and Programming Department. Under his guidance, a great number of textbooks, curricula and manuals used in training of specialists in "Information Systems and Technologies" and "Computer Engineering" were prepared and implemented in educational process. He gives lectures on fundamental disciplines in Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in the abovementioned specialties.
During his interdisciplinary scientific activity, the scientist has prepared 15 PhDs in Engineering and 2 Doctors of Engineering and currently supervises several dissertations.
We wish the outstanding scientist Agasi Melikov, who has made a significant contribution to world science, a happy 65th birthday, good health and new accomplishments!
