An event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was held at the Institute of Control Systems
13.02.2023 /An event devoted to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was held at the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 10, 2023. The event was attended by the Women's Council of the Institute, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists (CYSS), employees of the Institute and invited guests.
Opening the event, Aygun Aliyeva, PhD in Economics, Head of the ICS Public Relations Department, Deputy Chair of the Women's Council, pointed out that by a resolution of the UN General Assembly of December 22, 2015, February 11 was declared the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and spoke about the role and high position of women in society. A.Aliyeva noted the special attention and care of First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva in the successful implementation of state policy of women's involvement in science and education. The scientist congratulated the participants of the event on this auspicious day and wished them academic achievements.
Then, junior researcher Lamiya Najafova, Chair of the ICS CYSS, spoke on the topic of "Women and Girls in ICT". L. Najafova talked about the important role of information technology in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. She said that information technologies enable women to get information necessary for fruitful work, productive activities and participation in public life. Talking of global experience in increasing women's participation in the IT sector, Leyla Najafova also spoke of the work being carried out in our country in this sphere. She said that women in Azerbaijan are actively involved in development of information society and digital economy. The country successfully implements state policy on building successful careers for women in science fields, relevant platforms and programs are being implemented, and special attention is being given to gender equality.
In conclusion of her speech, talking about the importance of involving women in ICT and about the world's progressive women working in this field, L.Najafova congratulated the participants of the event and wished them success in their scientific activities.
Then Associate Professor Konul Omarova talked about the importance given to Azerbaijani women in the modern era, their role in the development of science and education, as well as the achievements of women in technology. Touching upon women scientists of Azerbaijan, who play an important role in various fields of science, K. Omarova talked about rich scientific activity and life path of Azerbaijan's first woman mathematician, Doctor of Engineering, Professor Tamilla Nasirova. Sharing her thoughts about the outstanding scientist, K.Omarova talked about her role in the development of mathematical science in the country, about her exceptional contributions to expanding human resources.
Then Aynura Hasanova, Chair of the CYSS of Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasireddin Tusi spoke on "The Role of Women in Space Exploration". Talking about women working in astronomy and astrophysics, A.Hasanova outlined existing problems in this sphere. She talked of female astronauts who have achieved great success in space exploration, including first woman in space Valentina Tereshkova, Svetlana Savitskaya, Sally Ride, May Jemison and other prominent scientists.
In conclusion, researcher Sayyara Hidayatzade spoke on "Family and Career in Science". She noted that Azerbaijani woman has always exalted the name of our nation with her wisdom, devotion, heroism, high maternal qualities. Modern Azerbaijani women are not only devoted mothers, but also professional figures of science, talented politicians and state officials who have gained the trust of people. This proactive role stems not only from historical traditions of Azerbaijani women, but also from the gender policy being implemented in the country and creation of necessary conditions for them to use all the opportunities as full members of the society. S. Hidayatzade congratulated the participants of the event and wished them success in their scientific activity.
