Scientific community of Azerbaijan has suffered a great loss
12.04.2023 /The first woman mathematician in Azerbaijan, Doctor of Sciences and Professor, Honored Teacher, famous scientist in the field of probability theory Tamilla Hilal gizi Nasirova passed away on April 12, 2023.
Tamilla Nasirova was born on October 20, 1936 in the village of Navahi in Hajigabul District. In 1953 she finished school No 176 in Baku with a gold medal and was admitted to the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University without entrance examinations, and in 1958, after graduating from the Azerbaijan State University she started her academic career at the Institute of Cybernetics of ANAS (now the Institute of Control Systems), in the same year she was accepted to the postgraduate studies of the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Later she worked on her dissertation at the Department of Probability Theory at Lomonosov Moscow State University under the supervision of Academician B.V. Gnedenko.
In 1964 T.Nasirova received her PhD degree from Tashkent University and in 1994 she received her Doctor of Sciences degree from the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the topic "Some Problems of the Theory of Mass Service". She defended her dissertation under academic guidance from A.V. Skorokhodov and earned the academic title of Professor in 1997.
An outstanding scientist with a multidisciplinary career, Tamilla Nasirova worked at the Institute of Cybernetics of ANAS in 1958-1980 as a laboratory assistant, researcher, senior researcher. Since 1980 she worked at Baku State University as an Associate Professor, and since 1995 as a Professor. Since 1994, returning to the Institute of Cybernetics, she worked as a senior researcher and head of laboratory.
As a renowned scientist in the field of probability theory, T. Nasirova was the first to prove the ergodic theorem for semi-Markov processes, developed a method for finding the process distribution and its boundary functionals based on the study of semi-Markov processes, and established the relationship between 3 different types of semi-Markov processes. Her theoretical findings are reflected in the theories of reliability, inventory management, mass service and insurance. The world-known scientist created her own school of probability theory in Azerbaijan and conducted an extensive research work. She published more than 100 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 2 books and 1 textbook.
Tamilla Nasirova, who has been teaching since 1964, was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Teacher" in 2007. She also worked as a Professor at the Karadeniz Teknik University in Turkey from 1996-2000. Under her guidance, degrees were awarded to 2 PhDs and 10 Doctors of Sciences.
Information about T.Nasirova was published in "Outstanding Women of Azerbaijan", "100 Outstanding Scientists of Azerbaijan", in "Women in Mathematics" mathematical-historical essay published in Russia, an issue of "The Firsts" ("The First Doctor of Mathematics") program in 2009 was devoted to Tamilla Nasirova. Her name is included in the encyclopedia "Mathematicians of Azerbaijan of XX century" and "Famous scientists of Azerbaijan".
The cherished memory of Tamilla Nasirova, the first woman mathematician, Doctor of Sciences, the worthiest guardian of intellectual honor, a model of morality for Azerbaijani women, who took a highest place in the hearts of thousands of young people, will always live in the hearts of those who knew her.
God rest her soul.
