Director's report was delivered at the Institute of Control Systems
28.12.2023 /The Director's report on the results of research works carried out in the current year was presented at the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 27, 2023. The meeting was attended by the administration of the Institute, heads of departments and laboratories, scientists and specialists.
Presenting the report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activity of the Institute in 2023, General Director of the Institute of Control Systems Academician Ali Abbasov noted that the scientists of the Institute conducted and successfully completed various stages of research work in certain research areas in the current year.
The academician spoke in detail about the work carried out in the main research areas of the institute, such as theoretical and applied control problems, artificial intelligence technology and research of socio-economic systems. A.Abbasov spoke about the development of intelligent control systems based on international standards such as SCADA based on the Internet of Things, implemented in accordance with the requirements of global technological challenges, onboard computer of special-purpose drones, flight controller, special communication, flight control system and related software, natural language technologies based on artificial intelligence for languages with limited digital resources and their applications, and other potential projects.
Reporting on important scientific results achieved in the current year, the academician gave extensive information on the study and application of artificial intelligence methods for recognition, diagnosis, forecasting and decision-making problems, creation of identification methods, mathematical models and technologies to solve control tasks in emergency situations, problems arising from the introduction of "Internet of Things" (IoT) technologies to support decision-making in the process of management of the "Smart City", and ways to solve them, and much more.
He noted that during the year the results of 8 research works were successfully applied in different spheres: in the village of Agaly in Zangilan District, in such government agencies as State Examination Center, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan, Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) and others. He reported that the important scientific results obtained this year on the research work carried out at the Institute had been indexed in such authoritative international databases as Web of Science, Scopus.
The General Director of the Institute also spoke about the patents and grants received, noting that 9 Eurasian patents had been obtained in 2023, 1 grant project had won a competition, and 6 projects were ongoing. A.Abbasov talked about the projects "Development of software and relevant interface for controlling unmanned aerial vehicle", "Development of intelligent information and reference system for call centers", "Development of software and hardware complex for delivery of heavy cargoes (up to 100 kg) and rescue operations by octocopter" and the work done within the projects-winners of the grant competition "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" announced on August 19, 2021. The scientist also talked about the research works of the Special Design Bureau operating at the Institute, which had been put into production this year.
Speaking about the personnel training work done, the scientist said that the Institute runs doctoral and dissertation programs to prepare Doctors of Sciences and Doctors of Philosophy. The academician noted that in 2023 employees of the institute had successfully completed 4 PhD dissertations and 4 PhD dissertations were at the stage of completion.
Reporting on scientific publishing activity, A.Abbasov said that 418 scientific works, of them 333 articles (64 in Web of Science and 49 in Scopus bases), 215 abstracts, 2 books (2 abroad), 2 textbooks and 2 monographs (2 abroad) by employees of the Institute had been published in 2023, about 2800 references to their works had been made.
A.Abbasov also spoke in detail about awards and prizes received this year, expansion of cooperation with local and international scientific institutions, conferences and seminars organized at the Institute, bibliometric indicators for the past 5 years and implemented practical measures to integrate science and education. He spoke in detail about 5 international conferences, 2 international seminars, 1 Republican conferences and 1 scientific session organized by the Institute. The academician emphasized the importance of the scientific session dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev held at the first presentation of virtual robots in Azerbaijan.
The head of the Institute told about the work on popularization of science, noted the positive dynamics of development of the website www.isi.az in the current year.
The report was then extensively discussed and opinions and suggestions were voiced, an open vote was taken and the report was unanimously approved.
A number of current issues arising from the agenda were then discussed.
