Day of Remembrance event was held at the Institute of Control Systems

An event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance was held at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) on September 27, 2024, to pay deep respect to the martyrs who had fought heroically in the 44-day Patriotic War and given their lives for the territorial integrity of the country. The event was attended by the leadership of the institute, heads of departments and laboratories, scientists and specialists.
Opening the event, General Director of ICS Academician Ali Abbasov stressed that by the Decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev dated December 2, 2020, September 27 is marked as “Day of Remembrance” in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The academician addressed the glorious history of the Patriotic War for the liberation of the occupied lands under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which had begun in response to another provocative military aggression of Armenia on September 27, 2020. Noting that the 44-day Patriotic War was an important victory in the history of the Azerbaijani people, Abbasov emphasized that the liberation of the occupied lands became possible due to the shrewd policy of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the determination of the Azerbaijani army.
Talking about the difficulties of the war period, the academician noted that the enemy, powerless before the superiority of Azerbaijan, had resorted to various provocations, attacking civilians and committing war crimes, grossly violating the norms of international law. Noting that 2908 military personnel and 100 civilians had been killed in the war, 6 were reported missing and 12 prisoners of war, A.Abbasov said the bright memory of the martyrs who had given their lives for the Motherland would always live in the heart of every Azerbaijani and honored the memory of our martyrs.
A.Abbasov spoke about the consequences of the war, recalling the statement signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation on November 10, 2020, which is considered as a de facto act of capitulation of Armenia. The academician said that as a result of anti-terrorist operations of the Azerbaijani Army on September 19 last year, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan were secured by raising our State Flag in Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavand, Aghdara and Askeran.
Talking about the construction works carried out in the post-war period and the important scientific achievements made, A.Abbasov mentioned the research and cooperation relations carried out in ICS between many institutions of the country and the challenges ahead of us.
Then Professor Knyaz Mammadov spoke about the Great Return Program led by President Ilham Aliyev, which served as a model for the leading countries of the world, talked about the high attention and state care given to the families of shehids and war veterans in his speech. Taking into account the important projects implemented to turn Karabakh and East Zangezur into a highly developed region, the scientist talked of the program of return of migrants who had een forced to leave their native lands for many years and shared his memories of Karabakh.
Then, Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov emphasized in his speech that soldiers and officers who had showed courage in the struggle for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the people as a whole had united around President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, showing showed unity and solidarity. The scientist noted with regret the countless destructions committed by Armenian aggressors and shared his memories of Karabakh.
Then Prof. Ilgar Mammadov spoke about the 44-day Patriotic War, especially the Shusha operation, a brilliant page in the book of our military history, and shared his memories.
The participants of the event joined the minute of silence announced across the country's territory by the decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to honor the memory of the martyrs of the Patriotic War at 12:00.
