On October 28, 2024, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Academician Asaf Hajiyev was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This medal was awarded to the Academician by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Yulian Revalski for his significant contribution to strengthening the role of science and national academies of sciences in the cooperation of the BSEC countries.

 

In 2002-2015 the prominent scientist A. Hajiyev headed the Milli Majlis delegation to the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly, in 2006-2008 and 2011-2013 he was elected Vice-President of the Assembly, and since 2015 he is the Secretary General of the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly.

 

It should be noted that the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, consisting of 42 autonomous academic subdivisions, is an organization governed by democratic principles. The Academy, which has been active since 1869 and has a mission to conduct scientific research aimed at the development of world science, employs about 3,000 scientists from leading countries of the world.
