03.12.2024 /A meeting with representatives of the University of Thessaly, Greece was held at the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan as part of the Erasmus project on December 2, 2024. The meeting was attended by General Director of ICS Academician Ali Abbasov, Acting Executive Director Associate Professor Elkhan Sabziev, DSc in Engineering, Head of the Laboratory of Recognition, Identification and Methods of Optimal Solutions of ICS Corresponding Member of ANAS Professor Kamil Ayda-zade, Head of the International Relations and Innovations Department Tofig Babayev, PhD in Engineering, Professors of the Department of Environmental Sciences, School of Technology, University of Thessaly, Providas Efthimios and Ioannis Faraslis and other members of staff.
Academician Ali Abbasov thanked the guests for the attention sown to the Institute and spoke in detail about the history of the Institute, the main areas of its activity, such as theoretical and applied control problems, artificial intelligence technologies and study of socio-economic systems, and the fundamental scientific research conducted here.
The academician spoke about potential projects being implemented at the Institute in accordance with the requirements of global technological challenges, such as the development of intelligent control systems based on international standards such as SCADA based on the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence-based natural language technologies and applications for low digital resource languages, important scientific results obtained in the field of control systems, robotics, optimization and modeling.
Voicing his proposals on the development of cooperation relations between Azerbaijan and Greece in science and education, A.Abbasov emphasized the importance of joint scientific research meeting the standards of the modern era.
Then, Professor Providas Efthimios spoke about the history of the academic institution he represented, areas of activity, scientific research and projects being carried out. He noted that the university teaches humanities and social sciences, engineering, health care, economics and business management, agriculture, information technology and other areas, and conducts multifaceted scientific activities. The scientist spoke about the human resources potential of the university, publishing activities, international cooperation, implementation of scientific results in practice.
P.Efthimios expressed confidence that the establishment of cooperation relations with such a leading research institution with a long history as the Institute of Control Systems will contribute to the development of science and education in both countries.
Then a round table was held to discuss the cooperation relations between the two countries in the relevant fields.
Acting Executive Director of ICS Associate Professor Elkhan Sabziev, DSc in Engineering, talked about the current scientific research and educational policy of the institute. E. Sabziev expressed confidence that scientific and practical cooperation will bring effective results for both institutions and voiced his questions and suggestions.
Head of the International Relations and Innovations Department of ICS Tofig Babayev, PhD in Engineering, informed the guests about the 4th International Conference “Problems of Logistics, Management and Operation in the East-West Transport Corridor” (PLMO 2025), 6th International Conference “Problems of Cybernetics and Informatics” (PCI2025), International Conference “Management and Control in Solving Engineering Problems” (MaCoSEP2025). Joint organization of international scientific conferences by the Institute of Control Systems and the University of Thessaly was discussed.
The meeting discussed the learning mobility of university students and faculty between the European Union member states and third countries affiliated with the program. Opinions were exchanged towards the development of cooperative relations between the two countries and relevant decisions were taken.
