On December 25, 2024, passenger plane Embraer 190 belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed 3 km from Aktau airport. More than 30 people were killed and others injured in the crash.

Following the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 25, 2024, nationwide mourning has been declared today to honor the memory of the victims of this tragedy.
