Rustam Azimov, a researcher of the Laboratory of Recognition, Identification and Optimal Decision Making Methods of the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been awarded the Presidential Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated January 31, 2025 “On Awarding Presidential Prizes to Youth in 2025”. The Prize is awarded to young people who especially distinguished themselves in the field of science, education, culture, youth policy and youth work, public and socially oriented activity, innovative activity and entrepreneurship, upon presentation of the Expert Commission on selection of candidates for the Presidential Prize for Youth.

 

Azimov Rustam Bakir oglu was born in the city of Imishli on May 26, 1999. In 2016, he successfully graduated from secondary school No. 272 of Baku named after E. Jalilov. In 2020, he graduated from the educational program “Bachelor's Training in Business Administration, Professional Development of Faculty and Administrative Staff” implemented jointly by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University and the University of Georgia (USA), earning a Bachelor's degree in System Engineering. In 2020 he enrolled in the Master's program of the Institute of Control Systems, specialty “Computer Science”, subspecialty “Intelligent Systems”, graduated with honors in 2022.

 

Since 2020 R. Azimov worked as a senior laboratory assistant, junior researcher in the laboratory of methods of recognition, identification and optimal decision making of the Institute. Currently, he works as a researcher in this laboratory. He is Deputy Chair of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Control Systems.

 

The young scientist has also completed an internship on mobile application development in the startup center “Easy START” of ASUNP and participated in 3 consecutive trainings organized in the center “AzII-IT Club”. In addition, he participated in the “Data Science” internship program and “Machine Learning in R Language” training. He has authored 6 research papers including 2 articles, 2 conference papers and 2 abstracts. In his research papers he compared some features used in image recognition problems on the example of recognizing printed handwritten letters in the Azerbaijani language. He has achieved success in programming, developed algorithms in Python, Java and C++ and programs for some methods of first-order finite-dimensional unconditional optimization. He has expertise in artificial neural networks, convolutional neural networks and clustering methods. He is currently studying various approaches used in image processing.

 

It should be noted that Rustam Azimov successfully defended his dissertation “Development of algorithm and software for a computer system identifying the authorship of texts in the Azerbaijani language” at the meeting of the Dissertation Council ED 1.20 at the Institute of Control Systems on December 6, 2024 on the specialty 1203.01 - “Computer Science” for the degree of PhD in Engineering Sciences.
