World famous scientist Academician Telman Aliev celebrates his 90th birthday

Today is the 90th birthday of prominent scientist, Advisor of ANAS, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Academician Telman Aliev, who made exceptional contributions to the development of informatics and cybernetics in Azerbaijan.
 
 
Telman Abbas oglu Aliev was born on May 2, 1935 in Goranboy District in a family of intellectuals. Having received higher education at the Azizbekov Industrial Institute of Azerbaijan (now the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University), T. Aliyev worked as a technician, engineer, chief engineer at the Computation Center (now the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan) by assignment. In 1988-2020 he worked as the director of the Institute of Control Systems of ANAS.
 
 
In 1966, T. Aliev defended his candidate's thesis under the supervision of Prof. V.V. Solodovnikov, Head of Department at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and in 1977, defended his doctoral thesis in "Technical Cybernetics and Information Theory". In 1985, he was awarded the academic title of professor. In 1983, the outstanding scientist was elected a Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and in 2001 he was elected a Full Member.
 
 
Т. Aliev, who has been engaged in research activities in many fields of science, was the founder of the "Electronic Computing Machines" laboratory, which played a crucial role in the development of informatics in Azerbaijan in 1958-1960, and headed this laboratory until 1976. He was a board member of the USSR Society of Informatics and Computing Technology, and a member of the Expert Council on Informatics, Computing Technology and Cybernetics. Academician Aliev authored a number of fundamental works at the intersection of cybernetics, computer science and physics.
 
 
In 1991, the academician was awarded the M.V. Keldysh Gold Medal, and in 1994 was included in the list of UNESCO computer science experts. In 2004, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2009 he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist, and in 2015 he was awarded the N. Tusi Prize. In 2018, he was awarded the Academician Azad Mirzajanzade International Silver Medal. In 2024, he was awarded the “100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev (1923-2023)” commemorative medal and the Badge of the Council of Elders of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
 
 
In recent years, under the scientist's guidance, a new generation “robust noise” monitoring and control system has been introduced at 500 facilities of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), providing remote diagnostics and control of deep oil production equipment and allowing to significantly increase its profitability.
 
 
World-renowned scientist T. Aliev has published a total of 594 scientific papers, including about 500 abroad, including in Web of Science indexed journals, as well as monographs “Robust Techology with Analysis of Interference in Signal Processing”, “Digital Noise Monitoring of Defect Origin” and “Noise Control of the Beginning and Development Dynamics of Accidents” published by Springer. T. Aliev is the author of 35 monographs and 132 patents, including 30 Eurasian patents. Under his scientific supervision 37 PhD dissertations and 13 Doctor of Sciences dissertations were defended.
 
 
 
The staff of the Institute of Control Systems sincerely congratulates the outstanding scientist, Academician Telman Aliev, who made significant contributions to the world science, including to the development of informatics and cybernetics in our country, a man of noble human qualities, and wishes him good health, happiness and new successes in scientific and social activity, on his birthday!
 
 
Academician Telman Aliev's 90th birthday will be celebrated on May 13 this year at the opening ceremony of the 4th International Conference on Problems of Logistics, Management and Operation in the East-West Transport Corridor (PLMO 2025) dedicated to the academician.
