Scientific-practical conference on “Green World, Artificial Intelligence and Modern Realities” was held in ANAS

The Central Scientific Library of ANAS hosted a scientific-practical conference on “Green World, Artificial Intelligence and Modern Realities” jointly organized by the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of Milli Majlis, ANAS and Institute of Control Systems of MSE.
The conference was attended by representatives of the state and government, members of Milli Majlis, employees of research and educational institutions, mass media, etc.
Opening the event, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology Sadig Gurbanov noted the scientific significance of the conference, which is held in line with the agenda of the spring session of Milli Majlis and is devoted to a topical subject. He said that climate change, ecological crises and reduction of natural resources are among the most serious problems facing mankind, pollution of atmosphere and environment, reduction of biodiversity, water shortage, climate change, etc. have a direct impact on the balance of the planet.
The committee chairman emphasized that the event is held on the International Day for Biological Diversity, the main purpose of which is to draw the attention of the world community to the preservation of biodiversity, which is affected by natural and anthropogenic factors.
Sadig Gurbanov said that national leader Heydar Aliyev attached special importance to nature protection and preservation of ecological balance, adding that the great leader considered protection of biodiversity an important part of Azerbaijan's environmental policy, and any damage to nature not only an environmental disaster, but also disrespect to the national heritage.
Recalling the words “global environmental problems pose serious threats to the existence and future of humankind”, which President Ilham Aliyev said at the COP29 event, Sadig Gurbanov emphasized that the use of digital technologies to ensure environmental safety and rational use of natural resources is expanding in our country. He noted that an important step in this direction is the declaration of Nakhchivan, Karabakh and East Zangezur as “green energy zones”.
The goal of Azerbaijan's “green” commitments, the committee chairman continued, is to increase environmental sustainability, reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to the use of renewable energy sources, the republic is implementing national projects and has joined a number of international initiatives in this field. He emphasized that Azerbaijan has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent by 2030 and by 40 percent by 2050.
President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli then spoke, saying the conference aims to discuss issues related to environmental protection, prevention of climate change, increasing attention to protection from natural disasters, artificial intelligence and digital development.
Saying that last year numerous events were held in the republic as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and the international conference COP29 was held at a high level, the head of ANAS emphasized that the COP29 event demonstrated to the world Azerbaijan's leading position in solving global problems, and after the liberation of Karabakh COP29 presented Azerbaijan in a new light.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that within the framework of COP29 and the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” the national science was enriched with new ideas, new directions and new terminology, such terms and concepts as “green energy”, “green economy”, “green growth”, “green technologies”, etc. were introduced in the scientific community.
The decrees signed by President Ilham Aliyev this year on approval of the “Strategy of Artificial Intelligence of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025-2028” and “Concept of Digital Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan” supplement the strategy of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and determine a new stage of development.
In conclusion of his speech, Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed confidence that the ideas and proposals to be put forward during the event, as well as the issues to be discussed at the conference will contribute to the process of drafting a new law in this field by Milli Majlis and wished success to the work of the conference.
