Modern Youth and the Healthy Family Model: Problems and Solutions

17.12.2025 /
As we know, one of the key factors determining the development of our society, the health of future generations, and social well-being is the proper guidance of youth and the instillation of a healthy lifestyle, family values, and conscious choices. In the modern era, global challenges and rapidly changing lifestyles present youth with both new opportunities and certain risks. Accordingly, the strengthening of family values, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, and raising awareness of the public regarding trends such as early and consanguineous marriages are of particular importance.
The promotion of family values is not limited solely to the concept of "tradition". These values also encompass essential societal principles such as tolerance, mutual understanding, social responsibility, and ethnic identity. When young people are raised on these values, they grow into clear-thinking, self-confident, purposeful, and patriotic individuals. A healthy lifestyle implies proper nutrition, regular physical activity, psychological balance, and the avoidance of harmful habits. By embracing these principles, young people achieve success in education and other fields, gaining the opportunity to fully realize their potential. It is evident that joint efforts by the institution of the family and social structures are indispensable for the promotion process to be successful.
The strengthening and development of family values is one of the key factors determining the fate of society. At the same time, the promotion of traditions contributes to the transfer of moral values such as love, mutual respect, unity, and responsibility from generation to generation. However, traditions should not only be preserved but also developed. This means that families must reformulate the culture of communication and intergenerational relationships in accordance with the demands of modern times. The main mission in raising spiritually rich youth lies precisely on the shoulders of the parents.
Early and consanguineous marriages are among of the most serious problems standing in the way of societal development. Early marriages primarily lead to the exclusion of adolescents from education, limiting their opportunities to attain social status and economic independence. Family life requires responsibility, decision-making skills, patience, and emotional stability. Psychologically immature individuals facing these challenges can lead to various family conflicts. The problems of consanguineous marriages, on the other hand, are mainly characterized by the occurrence of genetic mutations. As can be seen, these forms of marriage unequivocally affect the health of society and the development of future generations. The main socio-psychological factors here include nuances such as stereotypes, social pressure, education levels, economic conditions, and a lack of information regarding genetic risks. In this regard, the analysis of the root causes of the problem and the practical measures taken to eliminate them are of paramount importance.
To prevent early and consanguineous marriages, a comprehensive approach to the problem and institutional support are essential. For instance, organizing seminars and trainings on the consequences of early marriages in schools and public spaces, state support for engaging youth in education, the application of legal mechanisms, and strengthening oversight can yield effective results. On the other hand, organizing educational activities initiated by representatives of the public and private sectors in social and legal spheres to support the process of preparing young people for family life can contribute to reducing family conflicts, increasing social stability in society, lowering divorce rates, and, consequently, creating a healthy family model.
In the modern era, many leading countries of the world, including Azerbaijan, are implementing preventive measures to stop early marriages. Thus, in our country, measures to combat early marriages have been strengthened, and as part of joint cooperation between relevant government agencies, legislation has been improved to prevent such cases. According to Article 1.4 of the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the legal regulation of marriage and family relations in the Republic of Azerbaijan is carried out by the state, and only a marriage contracted in the relevant executive authority is recognized. The marriage age is set at 18, and previously existing exceptions have been abolished.
The legal framework for preventing consanguineous marriages is also being expanded in our country. According to the law approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on July 23, 2024, and entering into force on July 1, 2025, marriages between close relatives are prohibited, and new provisions have been added to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses aimed at preventing early marriages and extra-marital cohabitation.
Ultimately, comprehensive measures to protect and develop family values, provide proper guidance for youth, and prevent early marriages is vital for the sustainable development and wellbeing of our society. It is essential that every citizen recognize their responsibility in this matter. Let us not forget that the family, as a social unit built on love, understanding, and responsibility, constitutes the core of society.
