Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Kamil Aida-zade turns 75

"Today, Professor Kamil Aida-zade, DSc in Mathematics, a prominent scientist with exceptional merits in the development of mathematics and cybernetics in Azerbaijan, a Corresponding Member of ANAS, Head of Laboratory at the Institute of Control Systems (ICS) of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, celebrates his 75th birthday.
Kamil Rajab Aida-zade was born on December 23, 1950, in Qusar District. In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University). Since then, he has worked at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (now the Institute of Control Systems) as a laboratory assistant, head of a sector (1977-1979), and head of a laboratory (from 1995 to the present). Currently, he heads the Laboratory of Methods of Recognition, Identification, and Optimal Decision-Making at the Institute of Control Systems. K. Aida-zade also worked as a junior researcher and sector head at the Computing Center of ASU in 1974-1977, as a sector and department head, as well as Deputy General Director for Scientific Work at the Neftegazavtomat Scientific Research and Design Institute in 1979-1994. In 2004-2016, he held the position of Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics at ASOIU, and in 2016-2018, he was Head of the Department of Informatics at BSU.
K. Aida-zade, whose scientific activities cover various fields of science, was awarded a PhD in Mathematics in 1978 and a Doctor of Sciences in Mathematics degree in 1989. In 1992, he was awarded the academic title of Professor, and in 2014, he was elected a Corresponding Member of ANAS.
Under the leadership of the world-renowned scientist, various methods were developed for solving problems of conditional, unconditional, multi-objective, and global optimization, as well as optimal control problems with lumped and distributed parameters, intelligent computer systems were created for the Azerbaijani language to facilitate speech and handwriting recognition, as well as understanding the meaning of texts.
In 1981–1998, K. Aida-zade worked as the scientific supervisor for the creation of operational dispatch control systems for the Urengoy and Yamburg gas condensate fields, as well as for the Azergaztransport Production Association. In 1988, the Yamburg Field Management System, developed under his leadership, won first place in a competition announced by the USSR Ministry of the Gas Industry, where leading scientific centers from Russia and Ukraine participated, and was subsequently put into operation.
In 1993–2001, the prominent scientist was a member of the expert council of the Supreme Attestation Commission (SAC) under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 2001–2008, a member of the Dissertation Council at the Institute of Cybernetics of ANAS. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the State Examination Center (SEC). The professor is also an expert for international scientific programs of the European Union. Kamil Aida-zade is the author of a total of 570 scientific works and 3 books. 400 of his articles have been published abroad, including 120 in international databases and impact-factor journals. Under his scientific supervision, 4 Doctors of Science and 20 Doctors of Philosophy (PhDs) have been prepared. The team he leads has been awarded prizes and grants (CRDF, INTAS, EIF) in more than 10 competitions.
The professor is a member of the editorial boards of 7 journals, 3 of which are international, as well as a member of the organizing committees of various international conferences. He serves as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Computational Intelligence, is a member of the editorial board of the Ege University Journal of the Faculty of Science, and has been a reviewer for an international mathematical journal published in Germany since 1980.
For high scientific achievements in 1985, 1988, and 2001, K. Aida-zade was awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Instrument Engineering of the USSR and ANAS. In 2007 and 2011, he was honored with diplomas from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2011, he was granted the honorary title of Honored Teacher. According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 5, 2025, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, he was awarded the Order of Labor 3rd Class for his contributions to the development of Azerbaijani science.
