
A memorial event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Mathematics

An event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Mathematics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was attended by the administration of the institute, heads of departments and laboratories, scientists and specialists and other employees.
First, the cherished memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was honored with a minute of silence. Then, a video about the historical course of the tragedy, the atrocities committed, and the facts presented to the international community was demonstrated.
Opening the event, Elkhan Sabziev, DSc in Engineering, Acting Director and Deputy Director of the Institute of Mathematics Public Legal Entity, emphasized that the massacre carried out with extreme cruelty by Armenian armed forces with the participation of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR in the city of Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, 1992, was a grave crime directed not only against the Azerbaijani people but against all humanity. Speaking about the historical roots of the tragedy, he said that these events were part of a long-term policy of aggression and ethnic cleansing carried out against our people.
E. Sabziev also talked the steps taken toward providing a political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide. He said that, upon the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted a resolution regarding the Khojaly genocide in February 1994, declaring February 26 as the Khojaly Genocide Day. He stressed that in subsequent years, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, consistent and purposeful measures have been implemented to promote international recognition of the tragedy and to perpetuate the memory of the martyrs, monuments have been erected, and commemorative ceremonies have been organized in various countries around the world.
In his speech, E. Sabziev also emphasized that as a result of the historic victory won in the Second Karabakh War by the Valiant Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the territorial integrity of our country has been restored and historical justice has triumphed. E. Sabziev paid tribute to the dear memory of the Khojaly martyrs, saying that their memory will live forever in the hearts of our people.
Then, Professors Hamidulla Aslanov, Hamlet Guliyev, and the legal advisor of the Institute of Mathematics, Vafa Usubova, spoke about the historical causes and grave consequences of the Khojaly tragedy, as well as the significance of the work carried out toward its recognition on the international stage.
In conclusion, the cherished memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was once again honored with respect, and it was noted that such memorial ceremonies are of great importance in terms of strengthening national unity and promoting historical truths.
